CONDOMINIO MONTI, Via dei Serpenti 109, 00184 Rione Monti, Rome, Italy.
The eternal city has been on my bucket list for half an eternity. Why I always gave priority to other destinations in the end, I can't say. Recently I learned from a friend of the Condominio Monti, a charming boutique hotel opened in February this year, that I fell head over heels in love with based on the pictures. Reason enough to (finally) book a plane ticket to Rome.

Die ewige Stadt stand seit einer halben Ewigkeit auf meiner bucket list. Warum ich schlussendlich immer anderen Destinationen den Vorrang gegeben habe, kann ich gar nicht sagen. Vor kurzem habe ich durch eine Freundin vom Condominio Monti, einem entzückenden, im Februar diesen Jahres eröffneten Boutique-Hotel, erfahren, in das ich mich anhand der Bilder Hals über Kopf verliebt habe. Grund genug, um kurzerhand (endlich) ein Flugticket nach Rom zu buchen.

| For me the accommodation as well as the destination are equally important during a journey. I think an accommodation in which one feels comfortable and one would like to stay longer contributes to the perfect overall experience of a trip. This was exactly the case with the Condominio Monti. ▼▼▼ Für mich sind bei einer Reise die Unterkunft sowie die Destination gleichermaßen wichtig. Ich finde, eine Unterkunft, in der man sich wohlfühlt und man gut und gerne länger verweilen wollen würde, trägt zum perfekten Gesamterlebnis einer Reise bei. Genau das war beim Condominio Monti der Fall. |

| The location couldn't be better. It is situated in the middle of the idyllic Monti district with its small shops, (slow food) restaurants and bars, and only 400m from the Colosseum (you can even see it from the roof terrace). All other sights - except the Vatican and Villa Borghese - are within walking distance. And even these two were only a few underground stations away. ▼▼▼ Die Lage könnte kaum besser sein. Es liegt inmitten des idyllischen Monti-Stadtteils mit seinen kleinen Geschäften, (slow food) Restaurants und Bars, und nur 400m vom Colosseum entfernt (man sieht es sogar von der Dachterrasse aus). Auch alle anderen Sehenswürdigkeiten sind - bis auf den Vatikan und der Villa Borghese - in Gehweite. Und selbst diese beiden waren nur wenige U-Bahnstationen entfernt. |

The hotel is placed in a house from 1900 and was designed and furnished with a lot of attention to detail and even more good taste. Each room (during my 5-day stay I was allowed to stay in the suite with private roof terrace as well as in a double room) is individually furnished. Colours, shapes and small details - for example the coat hangers printed with "Ciao Bella/Ciao Bello" or the shop handles in the form of small brass fists - make a perfect whole. Many of them were specially designed for the Condominio Monti and are not even available in this form.

Each room has a bathroom with rain shower, a minibar, a kettle incl. tea and coffee assortment, a flatscreen TV, WIFI, air conditioning, a safe, a Marshall box and an incredibly comfortable bed with pillows for every taste - both normal and ergonomically shaped memory foam pillows. The second ones took me to dreamland in a jiffy with a mattress of ideal firmness. In fact, I slept so well that such a pillow has now reached position 1 on my must-have list.

Jedes Zimmer verfügt über ein Bad mit Regendusche, eine Minibar, einen Wasserkocher inkl. Tee- und Kaffee-Sortiment, einen Flatscreen-TV, WIFI, Klimaanlage, einen Safe, eine Marshall-Box und ein unheimlich gemütliches Bett samt Kissen für jeden Geschmack - nämlich normale sowie ergonomisch geformte Memoryfoam-Kissen. Zweitere haben mich in Kombi mit der Matratze mit idealem Härtegrad im Nu ins Traumland befördert. Ich habe sogar so gut geschlafen, dass ein solches Kissen jetzt die Position 1 auf meiner Must-Have-Liste eingenommen hat.

| What I found particularly delightful were the - also specially - illustrated postcards in every room, which encourages people to write postcards again in times of digitalization. Unfortunately, this has been completely forgotten, but one has always been so happy when holiday greetings have fluttered into the mailbox. ▼▼▼ Was ich besonders entzückend fand, waren die - auch eigens - illustrierten Postkarten in jedem Zimmer, die dazu aufgefordert haben, in Zeiten der Digitalisierung mal wieder Postkarten zu schreiben. Leider ist das ja komplett in Vergessenheit geraten, dabei hat man sich doch immer so gefreut, wenn Urlaubsgrüße in den Postkasten geflattert sind. |

| It is well known that the best way to start the day is with a hearty breakfast. That's why this is so important in the Condominio Monti. Either you take it in your room with room service or - and this is the variant I would recommend to everyone - on the beautiful roof terrace (partly also indoors) with orange trees and view over the roofs of Rome. The selection is abundant and every day my mouth watered: eggs, cheese, ham, salami, pastries (sweet and salty), vegetables & fruit, jams & Nutella, juices and prosecco - just to name a few. The hotel is also well prepared for incompatibilities (the fellow sufferers among you will certainly know that this is not a matter of course). In my case there was always (and from the 2nd day even unasked for) gluten-free bread & cakes. ▼▼▼ In den Tag lässt es sich bekanntermaßen ja am besten mit einem ausgiebigem Frühstück starten. Daher wird das im Condominio Monti groß geschrieben. Entweder nimmt man es mittels Room-Service im Zimmer ein oder - und das ist die Variante die ich jedem ans Herz legen würde - auf der wunderschönen Dachterrasse (zum Teil auch indoor) mit Orangenbäumchen und Blick über die Dächer Roms. Die Auswahl ist reichlich und hat mir jeden Tag das Wasser im Mund zusammenlaufen lassen: Eier, Käse, Schinken, Salami, Gebäck (süß und salzig), Gemüse & Obst, Marmeladen & Nutella, Säfte und Prosecco - just to name a few. Auch auf Unverträglichkeiten ist das Hotel bestens vorbereitet (die Leidensgenossen unter euch wissen bestimmt, dass das keine Selbstverständlichkeit ist). In meinem Fall gab es immer (und ab dem 2. Tag sogar schon ungefragt) glutenfreies Brot & Küchlein. |

| That takes me to my next point. The staff. Because the hotel can be so beautiful if the staff doesn't make you feel welcome. And I think every one of us has had an experience like this before. Don't worry! At Condominio Monti every single employee was friendly, extremely attentive and in a good mood. I could feel that they like doing their job and have a good time together at work. ▼▼▼ Das bringt mich auch schon zu meinem nächsten Punkt. Dem Personal. Denn das Hotel kann noch so schön sein, wenn das Personal einem nicht das Gefühl gibt willkommen zu sein. Und ich denke jeder von uns hat so eine Erfahrung schon mal machen müssen. Keine Sorge! Im Condominio Monti war jede/r einzelne MitarbeiterIn freundlich, überaus aufmerksam und gut gelaunt. Ich konnte spüren, dass sie ihren Job gerne machen und gemeinsam eine gute Zeit bei der Arbeit haben. |

| The way you started the day, you can let it end. Only instead of breakfast with an aperitivo, which can be enjoyed either in the bar "Magasin" (where you can also get snacks and drinks during the day) or on the roof terrace. Aperol Spritz together with small snacks, what more could you ask for? Also friends of the set dinner will be taken care of. The in-house restaurant "Oliva" offers a cosy atmosphere with few tables and an excellent menu. ▼▼▼ So wie man in den Tag gestartet ist, kann man ihn auch ausklingen lassen. Nur anstelle des Frühstücks mit einem Aperitivo, der entweder in der Bar „Magasin“ (in der man übrigens auch tagsüber mit Snacks & Getränken versorgt wird) oder auf der Dachterrasse genossen werden kann. Aperol Spritz zusammen mit kleinen Häppchen, was will man mehr?! Auch für Freunde des gesetzten Dinners wird gesorgt. Das hauseigene Restaurant „Oliva“ bietet eine gemütliche Atmosphäre mit wenigen Tischen und einer ausgezeichneten Karte. |

Finally, I would like to tell you a few details that I have noticed very positively and that have remained in my memory. I think it's often the supposed little things that add the finishing touches. In the Condominio Monti, for example, that was the music: relaxed, modern, unobtrusive and positive, it reflected the hotel concept acoustically. You could hear The Smiths, Tame Impala, Asap Rocky & Co.
Another indication of the detailed concept was the What'sApp message, which I received immediately after check-in. It welcomed me and informed me that What'sApp is there to help and advise me at any time of the day or night. Also the daily changing, fresh flowers did not escape me. Neither did the organic shampoo and shower gel of one of my favourite brands "Malin + Goetz".

Abschließend möchte ich euch noch von ein paar Details erzählen, die mir sehr positiv aufgefallen und in Erinnerung geblieben sind. Ich finde, es sind oft vermeintliche Kleinigkeiten, die etwas den letzten Schliff geben. Im Condominio Monti war das zum Beispiel die Musik: Entspannt, modern, unaufdringlich und positiv hat sie das Hotelkonzept akustisch widergespiegelt. Zu hören gab es etwa The Smiths, Tame Impala, Asap Rocky & Co.
Ein weiteres Indiz für das detailverliebte Konzept war die What’sApp-Nachricht, die ich sofort nach dem Check-In erhalten habe. Darin wurde ich willkommen geheißen und informiert, dass man mir via What’sApp zu jeder Tages- und Nachtzeit mit Rat & Tat zur Seite steht. Auch die täglich wechselnden, frischen Blumen sind mir nicht entgangen. Genauso wenig das organic Shampoo und Duschgel einer meiner Lieblingsmarken „Malin + Goetz“.

- Location and connection: Almost all of the important sights as well as a huge number of bars and restaurants are within walking distance. The Colosseum is just down the street, 400 metres from the hotel.
- Design: A boutique hotel that has been furnished with great attention to detail and specially designed for the hotel. A place where I felt comfortable from second 1.
- Culinary: If you don't want to, you don't have to venture out of the hotel for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The snack bar "Magasin" and the restaurant "Oliva" offer excellent, high-quality and authentic cuisine.
- Service: In the Condominio Monti you can look forward to attentive, extremely friendly and dedicated staff.

DIE VORTEILE DES HOTELS AUF EINEN BLICK:
- Lage und Anbindung: Fast alle der wichtigen Sehenswürdigkeiten, sowie eine Unmenge an Bars und Restaurants befinden sich in Gehweite. Das Colosseum liegt lediglich die Straße runter, 400 Meter vom Hotel entfernt.
- Design: Ein Boutique-Hotel das mit sehr viel Liebe zum Detail und eigens für das Hotel anfertigten Objekten eingerichtet wurde. Ein Ort, an dem ich mich ab Sekunde 1 wohl gefühlt habe.
- Kulinarik: Wenn man nicht möchte, muss man sich weder für Frühstück, noch für Mittag- oder Abendessen aus dem Hotel wagen. Die Snackbar „Magasin“ und das Restaurant „Oliva“ bieten hervorragende, qualitativ hochwertige und authentische Küche.
- Service: Im Condominio Monti darf man sich auf aufmerksames, überaus freundliches und bemühtes Personal freuen.

ROM-TIPS:
- The way is the goal: Due to the perfect location of the hotel you can explore everything on foot and discover new things again and again. So make sure you pack comfortable sneakers.
- Life in Rome takes place on the streets. In the evening simply sit down on one of the many piazzas, enjoy a Gelato Artisano or an Aperol Spritz and watch the hustle and bustle.
- A few basic phrases to learn Italian: the city is full of tourists, and you can get through well with English. Nevertheless, I had the feeling that the locals were happy when one spoke (or at least tried) Italian with them. For me it is a question of respect and interest towards other cultures to learn a few phrases in advance in the respective national language.
- A good travel guide: A city as rich in history as Rome needs a good travel guide in order to get all the background information and to better understand or even appreciate what is seen. In Rome there is a lot to know about every stone. I really liked the "BAEDEKER Smart" - handy, well structured and with an integrated city map.
- If you walk through Rome with your eyes open, you will notice small drinking water fountains everywhere from which wonderful cold water gushes. Simply close the faucet and let the water, which comes out of the small hole on the upper side of the faucet, flow into your mouth. - Those who don't want to use the public transport from the airport (and back again) can best book a shuttle from the hotel for €50,- per route. This is a bit the same price as a taxi ride - only with the guarantee of a clean, well-kept car.
