SONOS MOVED (IN WITH) ME

What I love: To discover things that change my life in a certain way because they change previous processes or behavior patterns in a practical way. This is exactly what happened to me several times with the new portable speaker SONOS MOVE. A speaker, is a speaker, is a speaker, ... no! But I only became aware of this when SONOS MOVE moved in with me. Until then, I was used to connecting my previous portable speaker to my smartphone via Bluetooth. And since that worked better, but mostly not really smoothly, I stopped listening to music at home and switched on the TV instead, just because of the background noise. But with the MOVE this habit is back again! I can also connect it to my smartphone via Bluetooth, but this is only necessary if my smartphone and the MOVE are not in the same WIFI. If this is already the case, the connection is established automatically and I can control the speaker either via the Sonos app or - and this is my personal highlight - via Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa by voice command. Since more music and less TV has been playing, I've started reading more again. My past weekends looked like this: I listened to my different playlists while I read the whole issue of Zeit in peace and quiet. I think this will be my new weekend ritual. 

But also in the evening, I won't turn on the TV to fall asleep anymore, but the MOVE with a podcast. Ergo: less blue light, less stimuli, better sleep.

Was ich liebe: Dinge zu entdecken, die mein Leben auf eine gewisse Art und Weise verändern, weil sie bisherige Vorgänge oder Verhaltensmuster in praktischer Hinsicht ändern. Genau das ist mir gleich mehrfach mit dem neuen portablen Speaker SONOS MOVE passiert. Ein Speaker, ist ein Speaker, ist ein Speaker, … nein! Das wurde mir allerdings erst so richtig bewusst, als SONOS MOVE bei mir eingezogen ist. Bis dato war ich es gewohnt, meinen bisherigen portablen Speaker immer erst per Bluetooth mit dem Smartphone zu verbinden. Und da das mal besser, meistens aber nicht wirklich reibungslos funktioniert hat, hab ich irgendwann damit aufgehört zuhause Musik zu hören und statt dessen den TV eingeschaltet, einfach wegen der Geräuschkulisse. Mit der MOVE ist diese Gewohnheit aber wieder zurück! Ich kann sie zwar auch via Bluetooth mit dem Smartphone verbinden, das ist aber nur notwendig, wenn sich mein Smartphone und die MOVE nicht im gleichen WLAN befinden. Ist das nämlich schon der Fall, dann steht die Verbindung automatisch und ich kann den Speaker wahlweise über die Sonos-App steuern oder - und das ist für mich ja mein persönliches Highlight - via Google Assistant bzw. Amazon Alexa per Sprachbefehl. Seit bei uns wieder mehr Musik und weniger TV läuft, hab ich auch wieder damit begonnen mehr zu lesen. Meine vergangenen Wochenenden haben so ausgesehen, dass ich meine unterschiedlichen Playlists angehört habe während ich nebenbei, in aller Ruhe, jeweils die gesamte Ausgabe der Zeit gelesen habe. Ich glaube, das wird mein neues Wochenendritual. 

Aber auch abends wird nicht mehr der TV zum einschlafen angemacht, sondern die MOVE mit einem Podcast. Ergo: weniger Bluelight, weniger Reize, besserer Schlaf.

SONOS MOVE is, as the name might suggest anyway, a portable speaker. It is obvious that it can therefore be used indoors and outdoors. Less obvious, however, is that SONOS has really thought about the outdoor use during the product design and is impressive here. The speaker is resistant to heat, cold, snow, dust and water (which in my opinion is not a prerequisite). On my terrace, the sun comes down very intense during the day, and it can happen that one or the other device screams "overheating". The SONOS MOVE stays cool and performs independently from external influences with up to 11h battery power. Speaking of external influences: It is very solid, which means that falls make relatively little to no difference. This is made possible by the hard-wearing, shock-resistant housing.

SONOS MOVE ist, wie der Name ohnehin schon vermuten lassen mag, ein portabler Speaker. Dass er somit indoor und outdoor verwendet werden kann, ist naheliegend. Weniger naheliegend ist aber, dass sich SONOS beim Produktdesign hinsichtlich der Outdoor-Nutzung wirklich Gedanken gemacht hat und hier beeindruckt. Der Speaker ist nämlich hitze, kälte, schnee-, staub- und wasserresistent (was meiner Meinung nach nicht vorauszusetzen ist). Auf meiner Terrasse knallt tagsüber die Sonne runter, da kann es schon mal sein, dass das eine oder andere Gerät „Überhitzung“ schreit. Die SONOS MOVE lässt das kalt und performt unabhängig von äußeren Einflüssen mit bis zu 11h Akkuleistung. Apropos äußere Einflüsse: Sie ist sehr robust, was bedeutet, dass ihr Stürze relativ wenig bis nichts ausmachen. Möglich macht das das strapazierfähige, stoßfeste Gehäuse.

What I find particularly practical is the SONOS app, which controls everything centrally. Within the app, music streaming platforms, podcast platforms, radio stations, etc. can be collected using widgets. For example, if you search for music by an artist, all widgets are searched and all results are displayed. No more cumbersome switching and individual searching in the individual apps. With the SONOS App there is everything from one source, which I personally consider very clever and practical. 

Last but not least: The sound. That was the point where I didn't expect too many surprises as I assumed it was great. And it is with the deep basses and the wide soundstage as well. But there was one surprise (of the positive kind) anyway, because SONOS MOVE with its automatic Trueplay Tuning, continuously adapts the sound to where and what I hear. I therefore always enjoy perfect sound, perfectly tuned to my environment - outdoors and indoors.

Was ich besonders praktisch finde, ist die SONOS App, über die alles zentral gesteuert wird. Innerhalb der App lassen sich mittels Widgets Musik-Streamingplattformen, Podcastplattformen, Radiosender etc. sammeln. Sucht man z.B. nach Musik eines Interpreten, werden alle Widgets durchsucht und demnach auch alle Ergebnisse gezeigt. Kein umständliches Wechseln und individuelles Suchen in den einzelnen Apps mehr notwendig. Mit der SONOS App gibt es alles aus einer Hand, was ich persönlich für sehr clever und praktisch erachte. 

Last but not least: Der Sound. Das war der Punkt bei dem ich nicht sonderlich mit Überraschungen gerechnet habe, da ich davon ausgegangen bin, dass er großartig ist. Und das ist er mit den tiefen Bässen und der breiten Soundkulisse auch. Eine Überraschung (der positiven Art) gab es aber trotzdem, weil SONOS MOVE mit dem automatischen Trueplay Tuning, den Sound kontinuierlich daran anpasst, wo und was ich höre. Ich genieße deshalb immer perfekten, auf meine Umgebung abgestimmten Sound - outdoor und indoor.
